Theory of Change

The aim of our Co-Centre Theory of Change was to map and clarify our pathways to impact to drive our research towards our vision of food system transformation by 2050.

The theory of change will complement the Food Co-Centre Conceptual Framework and Food Co-Centre Sustainability Compass, with all documents sharing the same overarching social, economic and environmental goals.

High Level Food Co-Centre Theory of Change

Objectives include

Clarify impact activities, stakeholder, enabling factors, intermediate and long-term outcomes and long-term goals.

Plan and map pathways to impact.

Use as a monitoring and evaluation tool and gauge progress towards our Co-Centre’s goals.

Use as a communication tool, both internally with researchers and externally with industry, policy and community stakeholders.

Development of our theory of change was undertaken in a systematic, methodological approach. Following initial training, a bottom-up approach was taken, involving researchers from all platforms in a co-design process, to thematically group research and impact goals, arrange impact goals in causal chains and identify relevant stakeholders and opportunities for engaged research and impact and engagement activities. This approach allowed all researchers to have agency with the development of our Co-Centre theory of change and ensure it is fully embedded into ongoing and future research activities.
