Dr. Chris Gill, PhD (Ulster University, 2000), is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and thematic leader for “Phytochemicals in Health and Diseases” at the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE). His research focuses on phytochemicals (terrestrial and marine), digestion, and gut health, utilizing in vitro, animal, and human models. He has secured significant research funding from prestigious sources, including the EU and BBSRC, and has held leadership roles in several major projects, such as HYFFI (FP7), SWAFAX (FP7), the JPI project VALID, and the MRC-funded MICA project Stomasense (2023–2025).
Dr. Gill serves as an editor for the European Journal of Nutrition and the European Associate Editor for Reviews, Nutrition & Healthy Aging. He received the University of Ulster Distinguished Research Fellowship (2015) and has served on grant review panels for organizations such as FORMAS and The Research Council of Norway. He is on the steering committee for the BBSRC OIRC hub INFORM and a founding member of the Nutrition Society’s special interest group on Phytochemicals and Health.
Dr. Gill is also Course Director for the MSc in Food and Nutrition, with responsibilities spanning research leadership, teaching, and program development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
