Dr Christian Reynolds is a Reader in Food Policy at the Centre for Food Policy, City, University of London, and serves as Senior Tutor for Research at the Centre. He is also the institutional lead for the UK Food Systems Centre for Doctoral Training (UKFS-CDT). Recognised globally for his expertise in food loss, waste, and sustainable diets, Dr Reynolds has worked across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the UK, US, and Europe. He is the lead editor of the Routledge Handbook of Food Waste (2019) and has over 50 peer-reviewed publications, alongside reports and book chapters. Dr Reynolds has provided evidence to UK and New Zealand parliaments and contributed to the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard.
He is Principal Investigator for the NERC Sustainable Plastics Packaging project (2020–2024), focusing on reducing food and plastic waste. He also co-leads projects on food system taxes (HEALTHEI), consumer nudges for lower carbon meals, and the H3 initiative on healthy soils, food, and people. Previously, Dr Reynolds held key roles at WRAP, University of Sheffield, and University of Aberdeen, with research spanning sustainable eating, food policy, and public health. His achievements include the Alpro Foundation Scientific Paper Award (2020) and best presentation at the Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery (2019).
