Professor Christina is the Director of the Centre for Food Policy, Professor of Food Policy, and a registered nutritionist. Her research focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating food policies and interventions that improve population health, reduce inequalities, and protect the environment. Adopting a food systems approach, Professor Christina examines the broader determinants of diet, integrating community participation and public voices to ensure policy recommendations are equitable and promote sustainable, resilient food systems.
She leads several major research grants, funded by NIHR PHR, NIHR PRP, and the Wellcome Trust. Her current projects include product placement trials with a national supermarket chain, evaluations of the UK Government’s Food (Promotions and Placement) regulations and the Healthy Start scheme, and systems investigations into the UK convenience store sector. Professor Christina’s research has significantly influenced local, national, and international policy, contributing to documents such as House of Lords Select Committee reports and the WHO European Region’s 2022 report on obesity. Her work has garnered widespread media coverage, highlighting its impact.
In addition to her research, Professor Christina serves as Deputy Editor of the scientific journal Public Health Nutrition and continues to champion innovative approaches to fairer, healthier food systems.
