Role
PostDoc Researcher
Dr Elena Anedda is a Research Fellow at the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, based in the Food Safety Department at Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin. Her research focuses on assessing emerging microbiological risks associated with the transition to more sustainable food production systems. This work takes a whole-system approach, covering both horticultural and animal food chains, and will employ omics-based methods, including metagenomics, transcriptomics, and related analyses, to characterise microbial diversity and function. Elena holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Galway, where her research examined the impact of heavy metals on antimicrobial resistance in the primary food production environment using both culture-based and genomic approaches. She has also worked as a Microbial Technologist at Teagasc on the HortAssure project, which assessed food quality in Irish production systems, where she gained extensive laboratory experience, including work with foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli STEC.
