Name
Geraldine Duffy
Role
Co-Principal Investigator
Geraldine Duffy’s research focuses on understanding the transmission and behaviour of microbial pathogens, particularly verocytotoxigenic E. coli, Salmonella, and Campylobacter along the farm-to-fork chain. Her work supports the development of food safety management systems, including quantitative risk assessment models and novel interventions to control both known and emerging foodborne pathogens.
Under the EU Framework Research Programme, Geraldine Duffy has coordinated and contributed to multi-national programmes on E. coli O157:H7, Cryptosporidium parvum, and emerging Campylobacter. She currently coordinates a 41-partner, multi-national EU Framework VI integrated research project on beef safety and quality (Prosafebeef) and is a partner in an EU Framework 7 project focusing on improved sampling for risk assessment (Baseline).
Geraldine is a member of the microbiological sub-committee of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. She has also served as a food safety expert for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI).
