Dr. Neil Boyle is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, specializing in the relationship between nutrition, stress, and food insecurity. He joined the university in 2014 after completing a PhD in Psychology, focusing on micronutrients and stress responsiveness. His research includes clinical trials examining how nutrients influence stress physiology, cognitive performance, and brain electrophysiology.
In 2016, Dr. Boyle was appointed as an N8 Agrifood Knowledge Exchange Fellow, where he investigated the links between food poverty, malnutrition, and well-being. His current research continues to explore food insecurity and local food systems, with a focus on sustainable nutrition. Since 2021, he has contributed to the University of Leeds’ MSc in Sustainable Food Systems, lecturing on sustainable food consumption.
His postdoctoral work spans both industry and research council-funded projects. Currently, he is a Co-Investigator on the Healthy Soil, Healthy Food, Healthy People project, funded by Transforming Food Production. This research aims to sustainably increase fibre consumption in children and adults across the UK, particularly in the context of food insecurity, which has significant psychological and health implications.
