Dr. Simon Haughey is a Senior Research Fellow within the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast and is a manager of the ASSET Technology Centre. He has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Pure and Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Organic Chemistry. He has published more than 90 scientific papers with a H-Index of 40 (Scopus). He spent more than 8 years as a Senior Research Scientist in industry where his activities included research, product development and manufacturing of in vitro diagnostic kits for use on SPR technology. Simon’s current research interests include applying spectroscopic fingerprinting techniques (e.g. RAMAN/NIRS/FT-IR/HSI) and chemometrics to food/feed quality and safety, authenticity, fraud and provenance. He played a major role in development of the Food Fortress concept for the animal feed sector, including Risk Management and Analysis, and is currently lead reviewer of the program and academic liaison. He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).
