Dr. Sinéad Flannery is an Assistant Professor in Behavioural Science in Agriculture in the School of Agriculture and Food Science. Sinéad completed her BAgrSc in Animal Science at University College Dublin before completing her PhD at University College Dublin. Sinéad’s PhD thesis investigated the professional development needs of agricultural educators within Irish advisory and extension services. She developed a ‘pedagogical competency framework’ for agricultural educators to address their training needs within the vocational education and training sector, with transferability to the third level education system. During her PhD, Sinéad obtained funding as a Visiting Research Scholar in the Education and Competence Studies Group at Wageningen University in the Netherlands to conduct field research in agricultural educator competence. Sinéad’s research interests are predominantly in the area of behavioural science, specifically agricultural education and farm health, welfare and safety, focusing on the role of knowledge exchange in promoting positive behaviour change at farm level. Prior to joining UCD, Sinéad was a College Lecturer at Teagasc Kildalton College during her PhD.
