Professor Vincent O’Flaherty is an expert in microbial ecology, methanogenesis, and bioprocess research. His work focuses on anaerobic biofilm reactor technology for biorefining, energy production, and wastewater treatment, as well as the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. He is the co-founder of GlasPort Bio (www.glasportbio.com) and the lead inventor of LtAD technology (www.nvpenergy.com).

Professor O’Flaherty collaborates extensively with academic colleagues and the private sector on projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture and agri-industries. His research also explores the development and application of anaerobic biofilm reactor technology to support sustainable energy and waste management solutions.

He is funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, Enterprise Ireland, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and the EU Commission. As a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Principal Investigator and a Funded Investigator in SFI BiOrbic, Professor O’Flaherty contributes to advancing biorefining and energy technologies. He also serves as the scientific lead for the Sustainability Pillar of the Dairy Processing Technology Centre (www.dptc.ie), driving innovation in sustainable dairy processing practices.
