Dr. Yuansong Qiao is a Senior Research Fellow in the Software Research Institute (SRI) at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) Ireland. He has 20 years research and development experiences in computer networks and content delivery. He is a Funded Investigator in Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) CONFIRM Smart Manufacturing Centre. He was the Principal Investigator of a SFI SIRG project named VidSDN (Application-aware Video Distribution using Software Defined Networking). He was the Principal Investigator of the COMAND (Connected Media Application Development and Design) Technology Gateway project and the SUNAT (Seamless Use through Network Abstraction Technologies) Applied Research Enhancement project funded by Enterprise Ireland. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Applied Technology from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS), Beijing, China, in 2008. As part of his Ph.D. research programme he joined the SRI at AIT in 2005. He continued his research in the SRI as a postdoctoral researcher in 2007. He received a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Solid Mechanics from Beihang University, Beijing, China in 1996 and 1999 respectively. Immediately after his graduation, he joined the ISCAS where he held roles as a network administrator and as a research engineer & team leader in research & development, working on protocols and products in the areas of computer networking, multimedia communication and network security. He is a member of IEEE (Communications, Computer, Computational Intelligence, Blockchain) and ACM (SIGCOMM and SIGMM). His research interests include Future Internet Architecture, Content Distribution, Programmable Networking, Internet of Things, Edge Computing, Blockchain & Decentralized Systems, Distributed Learning Systems, Big Data Systems, and Immersive Multimedia Multi-sensory Systems.
